BALANCE
by
Aileen McLeod
Good design must depend on the instinct and articulate taste of the artist.
There are, however, certain guiding principles. Good selection provides
the maximum results. To perceive beauty is not enough. As artists we must
reproduce something of beauty. Learn to develop a Personal Vision and
then record a Personal Point of View. Always return to the natural forms:-
a. The Pentagon
b. The Spiral
c. Pythagoreans (five pointed star)
These are fundamental forms of nature.
Unity and Balance:-
a. Formal Balance:- This balance is the placement of elements that are
identical or very similar i.e. colour, size , number etc.
b. Informal Balance:- This is the placement of one or more elements in
contrast or dissimilar format.
c. Occult Balance:- This is the placement of elements in and uneven balance.
This choice can be interesting and unusual
if well designed.
