First draw your cats around the tureen, placing two sitting cats
and one standing cat on each side. If your tureen is larger than the
one I used, you may be able to also get a cat that is sleeping or at
least laying down. I used the backs of the cats as that was easier than trying to get faces and expressions on the smaller cats. First fire. Paint the bodies of the cats whichever colors you like in cats. I used a calico, a tiger, an american tabby etc. You decide which type of cat you want. |
For the lid, I painted only a partial face of the
cat. I used the eyes, the nose, the mouth and whiskers. Make one
set of eyes green one set a deep blue, one set blue green or
turquoise and one set a yellow. I think I forgot to put whiskers on one of the faces, but that just adds to the charm. Also, put some long eyelashes on your kitty's eyes. I banded the lid and the top and bottom of the tureen with royal green, but use whatever color you like. I fired the tureen at 015 the first fire to be sure the cats were set into the glaze and the rest at 017.

This is a fast and fun project to do and it gives a different look to a tureen other than roses or flowers of some type. While some people don't like cats, there are a lot of us who love them dearly and we are always looking for a project to do with cats on it. |
