Elaine was born in Chicago, Illinois, into a large family,
who were all artistically bent. She credits her mother with forming her
early appreciation of beautiful artifacts and paintings. "My mother
had an eye for beauty and her home expressed it."
In 1952 Elaine married John Miechowicz, and two years later they moved to California and settled in the San Gabriel valley, where they reared their six children; two sons and four daughters. Today they are the grandparents of thirteen grandchildren. In 1992 Elaine met a demonstrator at the Los Angeles County Fair who directed her to Louise Negrini, who taught in the city where she lived. Elaine calls that "a great blessing in my life" to meet and study with such a wonderful artist, who also became a very dear friend. Louise brought her to the Porcelain Artists meeting and Elaine says she "fell in love" with the wonderful women she met there. "They were all so kind and generous, ready to help and share with each other." The club is my favorite place to be, and I look forward to meeting everyone each month." Through the club Elaine met and studied with many china painters and became a student of Betty Dietrich and Betty Turner, ("two more blessings."). "China Painting is now an important part of my life and I thank
God everyday for letting me live to enjoy it and the wonderful ladies
that share their talent with me." |
